San Antonio Mesothelioma Attorney
Michael Grossman, Personal Injury & Mesothelioma Attorney in San Antonio TX, Discusses Cancer Caused by Asbestos

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you probably have a number of questions: what exactly is mesothelioma, and how did this happen? Am I entitled to compensation? San Antonio mesothelioma attorney Michael Grossman from Grossman Law Offices is here to answer your questions and help you seek the compensation you deserve.
What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that attacks mesothelium, a thin membrane that lines the body’s internal organs. There are three known forms of mesothelioma: pleural mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma, and peritoneal mesothelioma. The most common is pleural mesothelioma, which attacks the lining the victim’s lungs (called the pleura). This type of mesothelioma accounts for approximately 70% of all cases. Pericardial mesothelioma attacks the pericardium, or the lining of the victim’s heart. Peritoneal mesothelioma attacks the peritoneum, or the lining of the victim’s abdominal cavity.
How Does a Victim Contract Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is caused by prolonged exposure to a mineral called asbestos. This mineral is naturally occurring, and is most commonly found in a fiber that is composed of tens of thousands of crystals. Asbestos has been used by humans for thousands of years, though most recently, it was used in a number of construction and industrial fields, typically as a means of heat or electrical insulation or a compound of concrete. But in recent years, its use has been banned in the United States and many other countries due to the health risks associated with prolonged exposure.
For hundreds of years, people have speculated on the dangerous of asbestos, but only in the past century has the causal link been established between asbestos exposure and mesothelioma. This link was difficult to establish because exposure to asbestos typically does not cause mesothelioma until decades after the exposure. Despite learning that asbestos caused cancer, many corporations continued to use the material for various tasks, and thereby potentially causing thousands of workers to contract mesothelioma. Mesothelioma litigation is currently the oldest mass tort in the country. Approximately 10,000 people die from mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure every year, and roughly 800,000 victims have sought compensation through lawsuits from over 8,000 different defendants.

Some of Our Most Recent Successful Cases
$3,200,000.00 Recovery - Wrongful Death / Automobile Accident
Our attorneys were hired to represent the family of a middle aged woman who was killed in a car accident. The incident occurred as another vehicle struck the car that the decedent was a passenger in, head-on on the passenger side. The impact resulted in catastrophic injuries which claimed the life of the decedent.
Our attorneys were hired soon after the accident and we launched a full investigation. Through the course of our investigation, it was soon determined that the head-on collision was caused a failed component in the defendant's vehicle (the particulars of which cannot be elaborated upon per the resolution agreement). Suit was filed against the manufacturer of said component and litigation commenced. The case was successfully resolved through litigation.

$350,000.00 Recovery - Product Liability (Back Injury Resulting in Surgery)
A young woman suffered a back injury that required corrective surgery following a boating accident. The boat in question sped out of control and crashed into a landmass, throwing our client from the boat, as the result of a stuck throttle. Upon inspection of the boat, it was determined that a poor design led to the malfunction and a product liability lawsuit was brought against the manufacturer. The defendants argued that the boat was inappropriately piloted, however, the physical evidence depicted the cause of the accident quite clearly and the case was successfully resolved.
